Replacing the Load Coil
If the Load Coil is damaged or misshapen, it must be replaced. Contact Fluidigm Support to order a new Load Coil before proceeding.
Switch off the RF generator power using the RFG circuit breaker on the right side of the CyTOF® 2.
Remove the Sample Capillary from the Nebulizer. Loosen the nut connecting the Nebulizer Gas Line to the side arm and remove the Nebulizer Gas Line. Slide the heat shield forward and open the heater box. Remove the Injector ball joint clamp behind the heater box. Remove the makeup gas line from the Spray Chamber, and remove the Spray Chamber.
Remove the Nebulizer line, the carrier fluid line and the drain vessel line. Slide the heater (with heat shield) off of the heater guide pins and rest it on the support pins at the top of the instrument. Remove the Torch Assembly from the front face of the instrument.
Open the front access door. Undo the four clips on the sides of the front shield and lift off.
Using a 7/16 inch wrench, loosen the nut holding the Load Coil. Use a second wrench (9/16 inch) simultaneously to apply counterforce on the larger nut. Repeat on the opposite side.
Carefully remove the zip ties on the new Load Coil using a wire cutter. Keep the Load Coil alignment tool in place.
Install the new Load Coil using the wrench (7/16 inch) to tighten the nuts and washers while applying counterforce on the larger nuts with a second wrench (9/16 inch).
Remove the Load Coil alignment tool. Examine the new Load Coil and make sure that the coils are equidistant. Also ensure that the arms of the coil are straight and aligned.
Replace the front shield and fasten the four clips in front.
Reinstall the Torch Assembly. Check the Torch alignment in the Load Coil as well as the Z-alignment (see Torch Alignment Check video).
