The monoclonal antibody VIM3b specifically recognizes CD97, a 7-span trio of transmembrane proteins with molecular weights of 74 kDa, 80 kDa, and 86 kDa. CD97 is strongly expressed in the blood on phytohemagglutinin (PHA)-activated T cells and B cells, monocytes, macrophages, and granulocytes and is weakly expressed on most resting lymphocytes. CD97 expression is also seen in several cell lines including HL-60, THP-1, and K562 cells. CD97 has several ligands and has been reported to bind to CD55 (decay-accelerating factor), chondroitin sulfate, integrin a5b1, and integrin a3b1.
