SATB1 (special AT-rich sequence binding protein-1) is an 103 kDa nuclear matrix-associated homeobox transcription factor that binds AT-rich DNA sequences at scaffolding protein attachment and viral genome integration sites. SATB1 is expressed by thymocytes (especially single positive CD4+ thymocytes), T and B lymphocytes, NK cells and macrophages. It functions as both a global chromatin organizer and a gene-specific transcription factor.
